James is a 7 year old boy with many talents who enjoys playing on the playground with his favorite dinosaur, Hercules. James’ parents are taking him to the playground today but he’s nervous about being around the other kids. James has autism which can make making new friends more challenging for him. With the support of his parents will James be able to work through his fear so that he doesn’t miss out on all the fun and maybe even make a new friend, or two?

Mrs. Kendrick has created such a timely, warm, and supportive book for children and families. I highly recommend this book for children of all ages, families, schools, youth camps, and the like. The illustrations are warm, inviting, and simply beautiful. The writing is clear and appropriate across diverse age groups and communities. You can easily read it before bed, during circle time, or buy it for a loved one or a family friend. Mrs. Kendrick has expertise in sociology, education, and most importantly, being the parent of a neurodivergent child. I can't wait to read more from this new author!

James C.A.N. make new friends is not only a wonderful book, but an important one. Tori Kendrick is a smart author who has provided us with something the market has long been missing. Her story is sweet and necessary, her message is going to change the lives for many families.
